Task 2: Testing your proposal
This task is about testing your proposal. It relates to our section on Working in iterations. In this task you need to take a proposal from Task 1 and detail how you would build something to test in two weeks.
Step-by-step
-
Take one of your proposals from Task 1.
- Write down how you would test whether this a good proposal in order to satisfy the user need. Answer each of these questions:
- Who are the users you would show this to?
- How will you simplify your proposal so it can be shown to your users?
- What do you want to know about your users and how they might interact with your proposal?
- What do you want to learn from showing it? (What do you need to know in order to either develop this idea further or discard it?)
- Now imagine you have two weeks to build your proposal. At the end of those two weeks your proposal will be tested with users. Write down what and who you would need to help you build your proposal for research. Answer each of these questions:
- Which experts would you need on your team? (A designer? An engineer?)
- Are there any materials you would need to create your proposal?
- What are the biggest unknowns in building the proposal? How do you plan to tackle these?
- What other tasks need to be completed during the two-weeks?
Your finished plan could be used to run a sprint in which you create your proposal.
- As a group, reflect on the following questions. What did you learn from this activity? Was anything surprising? Or particularly challenging? What would you do differently if you were to do this again?
