Task 2: Outline usability issues to assess
Use Nielsen’s 10 Usability Heuristics to conduct a formative heuristic usability evaluation on an interface relevant to your project (or your product’s interface). By evaluating the interface by these categories you can identify obvious usability issues and critical tasks that will guide further usability evaluation with users.
Step-by-step
- Choose an interface or touchpoint related to your project or the interface of your own product.
- Define a task to complete using the interface. Ideally this task will lead you through 3 - 4 different screens.
- For each screen and interaction with interface, assess what you are interacting with and note down issues against the 10 heuristics.
- Review the issues you noted down for each heuristic and refine.
- Identify which issues are user risks to collate into the risk register and how you can mitigate them
- Identify how you can address usability issues with design features.
